Pius XII & Hitler

I recently came across John Cornwall’s Hitler’s Pope, published in 1999 by Viking Press. Just reading the Prologue and the first chapter was enough to convince me that this was not the type of solid research I was looking for. Not only was the author’s bias obvious, but his facts were more than dubious. In [...]

Elementary Geography Champion

Congratulations to Marc Doucette (grade seven) for winning the school level of the 2010 National Geographic Bee! Ten IHM students from grades four through eight competed at this level. Marc then took a written test to see if he qualifies for the state level. He did! and will be competing at the NH State Finals [...]

Philosophy – A Grounding in Reality

The Sisters are taking evening classes in Philosophy, going through Brother Francis’ Philosophia Perrenis lectures on tape with the assistance of a tutor-at-a-distance (using a speaker phone). We are almost to the end of the course on Cosmology, and there is never a lecture that doesn’t touch on something we can use in the classroom. [...]

The Acquisition of Wisdom and the Transmission of Culture

Our third level of education is the human or liberal — the training of man as man (how to think, how to act, and how to express oneself eloquently with both tongue and pen). A liberal education presupposes the earlier levels. If you can’t stay alive, you won’t be able to train your intellect. [...]

As They Transcend the Material

[...]

[This talk was given at the 2009 SBC Conference, October 31, 2009. It was very well received (with a standing ovation). What is posted here are my notes from [...]

Auriesville Pilgrimage 2009

At the end of September every year, the older students have a chance to go on the seventy-two mile Pilgrimage for Restoration. It is a wonderfully painful walking retreat — with amazing spiritual results!

Pickle Festival 2009

Immaculate Heart of Mary School participated in the twelfth annual Winchester Pickle Festival this past weekend. Whenever the festival does not clash with the Auriesville Pilgrimage, the students perform at the gazebo. This year, the older students also walked in the parade: one of the first marching fiddle groups in history! (There were marching violins [...]

Religious Professions

Please rejoice with us over the first vows of two of our Sisters: Sister Maria Rosaria and Sister Marie Gabrielle. They made their professions on March 25 (Feast of the Annunciation), taking vows for three years as Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Semper Deo gratias et Mariae!
(A special thank you to Carolyn Kamuda [...]
